Tina Gharavi is an award-winning screenwriter/director educated in the US and France, currently based in the north of England. Since 1996 she has continued to work as filmmaker and educationalist, with several short scripts commissioned and produced. Her recent projects have featured a dynamic blend of documentary and fiction-film techniques focusing on issues of gender, sexuality and empire! These projects have broadcast on TV and screened at many international festivals including Sundance and IDFA.

She has recently been commissioned by Channel Four to produce Mother/Country, a docu-drama about returning to her mother's house in Iran 20 years after the Islamic Revolution. In Newcastle her production company, Bridge + Tunnel Productions, has established the Kooch Cinema Project: The Persian Drama & Cinema Group, who will be trained in aspects of media production while collaborating in workshops with Tina on a feature script about the experience of Iranians living in Tyneside. In 2003, she was awarded a US National Endowment for the Arts Residency at Hallwalls Media Institute in Buffalo, NY.
