Events - Grace Paley: Enormous Changes at the Last Minute
Venue: Culture Lab, Newcastle University
Organiser: Northern Writers' Centre
Start time: 10:00 Mon 2 Jun 2008
Website: www.northernwriterscentre.com

Grace Paley, who died in 2007, was born in New York in 1922 and grew up amidst the vivid immigrant communities of the city. She began to write fiction in the fifties and her stories “explored in precise, pungent and tragi-comic style, the struggles of ordinary women muddling through everyday lives”. Though modest, her output of short stories attracted a devoted following, and her work was widely praised by critics and fellow writers. Her Collected Stories won the Pulitzer Prize when it was first published in 1994.

Novelists and short-story writers Ali Smith and Jackie Kay will program this celebration. The event will take place throughout the day and will include talks and readings of work by a variety of speakers. More detailed information on the event will be announced soon.

Northern Stage is providing box office services for our events programme which will allow tickets to be bought and paid for in advance. Tickets that are already paid for can be picked up from Culture Lab on the night of the event. We advise you to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
