Ten by Ten
Come along to the Bridge Hotel in Newcastle to see ten top performers with spoken words, words set to music, words shared between people, words on walls, words in songs, words in poetry, words in stories… each of the ten performers has ten minutes to engage you, thrill you, entrance you and inspire you. The January Ten by Ten night will be hosted by Chris Moir, the erstwhile host of the Poetry Vandals nights at the Cumberland Arms. The line-up's not finalised yet, but confirmed so far is music from Bridie Jackson, Nev Clay reading from his new collection, Scott Devon up from Manchester, plus Viv Wiggins, Lesley Mountain, Robert Lonsdale and Asit Maitra. Bridie Jackson is back after a beautiful if short set in December - we asked her to come back and give us some more of her wonderful music. Scott Devon is one of the first in a new generation of performers who call themselves street poets and has been published in various magazines, websites and anthologies. Asit Maitra's work has been published in ZIG-ZAGS with Pat Borthwick plus Acumen, Other Poetry, Redbeck Anthology of British South Asian Poets and the Biscuit Poetry Winners' anthology. Robert Lonsdale runs a poetry event called the The Write Room. He once met James Dean but will never vote for Lembit Opik. Nev Clay, poet, singer-songwriter and all-round good guy, will be reading from his fabulous new collection, Leaf Collector. Viv Wiggins Is a veteran of the Hell's Belles Comedy Cabaret. She tends to favour rhyme and reckons she isn't clever enough to understand the proper stuff. Lesley Mountain has a pamphlet collection, Hunting the Air, published by Vane Women Press and has had a poem projected onto a building in Spennymoor. Admission free The Bridge Hotel |
