The Naked Eye: Poetry writing with Colette Bryce and Linda France (July 2008)
Residential course at Highgreen Arts in Northumberland: 21-26 July 2008 This course is aimed at people who have begun writing poetry and are now looking for ways to take their work a step further. Through a process of workshops and tutorials, we'll investigate questions of identity and perception, and explore the creative strategies we can use to transform the raw material of our lives into poetry. Cost: £495 (includes full board and accommodation) North East Literary Fellow Colette Bryce has published two poetry collections with Picador, The Heel of Bernadette and The Full Indian Rope Trick, and a pamphlet The Observations of Aleksandr Svetlov. She teaches for the Poetry School, the Arvon Foundation and the University of Newcastle, and works also as a freelance editor. Linda France has published collections with Bloodaxe Books, including The Simultaneous Dress (2002) and The Toast of the Kit Cat Club (2005), a biography in verse of the 18th century traveller and writer Lady Mary Wortley Montagu. Linda also edited the acclaimed anthology Sixty Women Poets (Bloodaxe 1993). She teaches a course in Poetry in Public Spaces at the University of Newcastle. Highgreen Arts is based in unspoiled, open moorland in the Northumberland National Park. To find out more visit www.highgreen-arts.co.uk.
